Context

Please be aware that we don’t test Amira/Avizo in a cluster environment and don’t know if it can work.
The support of the HPC environment is recorded in our Requirements database under the reference APPS-I-216/AVIZO-REQ-154. Still, there is currently no estimated date for getting it added to a future Amira/Avizo roadmap.

Description & Suggested Solutions

If IvReport/Amizo is executed through VNC on Linux, the "DISPLAY" environment value is automatically set to :1, corresponding to an additional display created for the VNC session. This display uses the software graphical driver, and so, any commands to retrieve graphic card information (driver version, memory..) fail.

Setting OIV_REMOTERENDER_DISPLAY allows the configuration of the display on which IvReport/Avizo must execute information retrieval commands.
Example to force the display to the default value through VNC:
> export OIV_REMOTERENDER_DISPLAY=:0

If it doesn’t help, I suggest creating the environmental variable HX_USER_VIDEO_MEM_AMOUNT and setting it to the GPU memory size in Mbytes before running Amira/Avizo. It will force Amira/Avizo to use this memory size instead of querying the graphic card.
