[FlexNet License Server - Lmadmin]

Context & Prerequisites

Nomad licensing allows you to use Thermo Scientific™ software products on a system that is not always connected to the license server. To do this, you must borrow a license while connected to the server and then disconnect from the server. This licensing model is referred to as nomad licensing.

Note: Borrowing a license temporarily reduces the number of licenses available on the network.

To set up a nomad license, follow the instructions below. This process assumes that standard FlexNet licensing (without borrowing) is already working correctly.

Note: For Avizo, Amira, and PerGeos releases earlier than 2020.3, as well as for Open Inventor, use the mcslmd Vendor Daemon instead of asglmd in the commands described here.

Process

1. On the client machine, open the cd command to navigate to the directory where the FlexNet utilities are installed.

By default, these utilities are located at:

<application_install_dir>/share/license/FLEXnet

2. To initiate license borrowing, run the lmutil program on the client using the following syntax:

 lmutil lmborrow asglmd* <enddate> <time>

Where:

  •   <enddate> — the date when the license is to be returned, in the format dd-mmm-yyyy.
  •   <time> (optional) — the return time in 24-hour format (hh:mm) based on the FlexEnabled application’s local time.

If <time> is not specified, the borrowed license remains checked out until the end of the specified date.

Example:

  lmutil lmborrow asglmd* 16-jan-2007 13:00

3. Start the product. Use all of the extensions you intend to borrow.

4. Disconnect the client machine from the network.

5. Exit the product, then restart it to confirm that all borrowed extensions are available offline.

6. To display information about borrowed features, run the following command on the machine that borrowed the licenses:

lmutil lmborrow -status
