Process
When using floating licenses, licenses are typically hosted on an external server. Follow the steps below to configure the server:
1. Launch Thermo Scientific License Manager (LM)
- If no product is activated, LM indicates that your computer has no active product.
- Click Add license(s), then select License server.
- If one or more products are already activated on your computer, LM lists the active products.
In the Server tab, click Add Server.
2. In the license server display:
- Enter the server name (or its IP address) followed by a port if there is a specific one. If no port is specified, LM automatically uses the default port range 27000-27009.
Format: server_name|IP>:<port>

- Click Save to add the server to the list of available license sources.
3. If LM successfully connects to the server, the available license features appear in the Server tab.
Click Refresh to update the displayed information, including server status, available licenses, and tokens.
4. (Optional) If LM cannot reach the server, the Floating server not alive dialog appears. This dialog provides information about the server connection error and offers suggestions to resolve it.
Click Change to update the server configuration, or click Save anyway to store the settings despite the "Not Alive" status.
Notes: If the license server status is "Not alive", no licenses appear in the Server tab.
Additional Actions
In the Server tab, you can perform the following actions:
- Click Disconnect next to the server name to deactivate it.
- Click Edit next to the server name to modify its settings.
