The complete process for "FlexNet Server: Use lmgrd as an Alternative to lmadmin" is described in three articles.

This third article (3/3) details how to start the server and manage your licenses.

Process

3. Start the Server (on Windows)

Once the license manager service is configured, start lmgrd by initiating the service from the LMTOOLS interface:

3.1 Launch LMTOOLS if it is not already running.

  • LMTOOLS opens on the Service/License File tab.
  • Click on Configuration using Services
  • In the selection box, select Thermo Scientific Applications License Manager from the service list.

3.2 Open the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

  • Click on Start Server to start the Thermo Scientific Applications License Manager.
  • The license server should now be running and writing its debug log output to: <server_install_dir>\FlexNetLicenseServerTools\flexnet.log.

Notes:

  • Any time you modify the server configuration, stop and restart the server for the changes to take effect.
  • Any time you modify the server licenses, use the Start/Stop/Reread tab and press the ReRead License File button.
If the operation fails the first time, wait a few seconds and retry.

4. Manage your licenses

To manage the licenses of a Thermo Scientific software product, refer to articles KA-01257 through KA-01267.

To reread the license file and start the Vendor Daemon, use the following command:

./lmgrd lmreread -c <server_license_file> -vendor <vendor_name (asglmd or mcslmd)>

Note: After any change in the license server, you must stop the asglmd/mcslmd process, which is automatically reloaded by lmgrd to apply the changes.

Tip: If you encounter any issues with your configuration, ensure that lmgrd and the Vendor Daemon are allowed to communicate through the firewall.
