Context
The comprehensive guide for "FlexNet Server - Use Lmgrd as an Alternative to lmadmin" is divided into three sequential articles.
This third installment (3/3) explains how to start the server and manage your licenses.
Process
3. Start the Server (on Windows)
After configuring the license manager service, start lmgrd by initiating the service from the LMTOOLS interface:
3.1 Launch LMTOOLS if it is not already running.
3.2 In the Service/License File tab, select Configuration using Services.
3.3 From the service list, select Thermo Scientific Applications License Manager.
3.4 Open the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
3.5 Click Start Server.
The license server should now be running, and debug log entries will be written to <server_install_dir>\FlexNetLicenseServerTools\flexnet.log.
Notes:
- After modifying the server configuration, stop and restart the server for changes to take effect.
- After modifying license files, use ReRead License File in the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
If the operation fails, wait a few seconds and try again.
4. Manage Your Licenses
To manage licenses for a Thermo Scientific™ software product, consult the article that corresponds to your licensing method:
- KA-01339 "Manage Floating Licenses: Manage Online with Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server".
- KA-01345 "Manage Floating Licenses: Manage Offline with Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server".
- KA-01346 "Manage Floating Licenses: Manage with the Server Web Interface".
To reread the license file and restart the Vendor Daemon, use the following command:
./lmgrd lmreread -c <server_license_file> -vendor <vendor_name (asglmd or mcslmd)>
Notes:
- After making any changes to the license server configuration, you must stop the asglmd or mcslmd process. The Vendor Daemon will be automatically restarted by lmgrd to apply the changes.
- If you experience any issues with your configuration, verify that lmgrd and the Vendor Daemon have the required permissions to communicate through your system's firewall.
