Context

To activate, upgrade, or reactivate your floating license, you will need the Host ID of your license server.

On the machine where the license server is installed, use one of the following methods to obtain your Host ID. If multiple values are displayed, select just one.

Prerequisites

Before trying any of the following methods, disable all temporary network connections (WLAN card, docking station, etc.). This ensures that the computer ID is based on a permanent network adapter. You can re-enable the temporary network connections afterwards.

Process

1. Get Your Host ID From an Existing License File

If your license is already installed, you can find your machine's Host ID in the existing license file (license.dat).

In a floating license file, your Host ID is the string located on the SERVER line.

SERVER hostname YourHostID
Vendor mcslmd
INCREMENT OpenInventorSDK mcslmd 10.10 31-oct-2023 1\
VENDOR_STRING=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx \
SUPERSEDE=OpenInventorSDK \
ISSUER=Parent=xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xx.xx \
ISSUED=6-dec-2022 SN=YourLicenseNumber START=23-sep-2008 \
SIGN=11AE7212E1C4

2. Get Your Host ID Using a Command Line

  • Open a command console on Windows, a command shell on a Linux system, or a terminal window on a Mac.
  • Use the cd command to navigate to the share/license/FLEXnet subdirectory of your server tools installation. For the recent version of the FlexNet tools, the tools are in a directory named FlexNetLicenseServerTools.
  • Execute the command lmhostid to get the Host ID.

3. Get Your Host ID Using Lmadmin

  • Open the lmadmin web interface (http://localhost:8090/systeminfo) in a web browser on the server machine.
  • If you have just installed lmadmin, you will be prompted to enter a name and a password. Enter “admin” for both (default credentials) if you have not already set the admin password.
  • Retrieve and copy the Ethernet Address.

4. Get Your Host ID Using the Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server (LMs) - Windows only

  • Install and run the LMs.
  • Navigate to the Server Configuration tab (System details).

  • Or, in the License Administration tab (Server Host ID display)

  • Retrieve and copy the FlexNet Server Host ID.

Note

Amira, Avizo, and PerGeos licenses issued before version 2020.3 used a different technology for activation.

To administer those versions, refer to article KA-01271 "Manage Floating Licenses: Versions Prior to 2020.3 for Amira, Avizo, and Pergeos Software".
