[Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server (LMs)]
Context & Prerequisites
Your floating licenses are tied to your server’s Host ID. If that Host ID changes—due to hardware replacement, server rehosting, OS reinstallation, environment consolidation, or decommissioning the old server—you must transfer the licenses to the new Host ID. Follow the following steps to transfer licenses online.
Caution: The number of allowed transfers is limited.
Process
1. On the original machine with active licenses, open Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server (LMs).
2. In the License Administration tab:
- Check the box to select the license(s) you want to transfer.
- Click the Transfer button to transfer multiple product licenses, or click the Transfer icon to transfer a single license.
3. In the Transfer license(s) display:
- Adjust the number of tokens to transfer for each license.
- Click Transfer to confirm. A green pop-up confirms the successful transfer.
4. In the Transfer report display:
- Click Download TLM Codes to download the activation codes of the transferred license. Save the tlm-codes.tlm file. You will need its contents to activate the license on the new machine.
- Click Close.
5. To apply the updated license, restart the FlexNet server:
- In the Restart FlexNet lmadmin service display, click Restart.
- A green pop-up confirms the successful restart.
After the restart, the license no longer appears in the License Administration tab. It is now ready to be installed on the new machine.
Open Thermo Scientific License Manager for Server on the new machine and follow the procedure in article KA-01334, titled "Online Activation on Server Using License Manager for Server".
Note
If you lose your transferred license's TLM codes during this process, you can retrieve them using the transfer-tlm-codes file automatically generated during each transfer operation. This file is located in your system's user directory.
